Mai Chau

Mai Chau is located 135 km south-west of Hanoi in the Northern province of Hoa Binh. Mai Chau offers a most splendid vista of the Valley which is surrounded by lush greens and stilt houses inhabited mainly by the White Thai ethnic group.

Michelle had visited this area and was anxious for us all to experience the beauty and uniqueness it offered.

Our bus arrived at 9:00 and once again we began navigating through the Hanoi traffic. As we began our trek up the mountain, things became very bumpy.

About half-way to our destination our driver pulled into what appeared to be a rest area. Michelle and I scrambled out of the bus looking for the rest room,... those bumpy roads can really jostle your insides.

We found the restrooms and the lavatory,..we were very pleased they both worked.

As a newbie to this country, I find so many things interesting like snake whiskey, beautiful and unusual flowers, large funny looking things in a pot and of course a sweet, sleeping dog.

Mai Chau Lodge

We were welcomed by a kind and accommodating staff who made us feel right at home.

We dropped our luggage, had lunch, then a siesta until it was time for our bike ride. Did I mention it was HOT and HUMID? Over 100...Not looking forward to the bike ride.

Our afternoon of biking turned into quite an adventure. (Here's where the blog gets tricky....) My cousin, Michelle has already written about our adventures. She is a great blogger. I'd like for you to hear about the adventure from her perspective. (You won't be sorry...)

Enjoy!
